Camp is open!
I like to open camp for spring turkey season (April) every year, but May is when we really start visiting together. However, turkeys must be harvested before the season closes.
Vegetation is really important for not only our enjoyment, but also to provide shelter and food for the wildlife. We have a nice variety of both plants and animals!
The Acres also provides a variety of grasses, berries and mast foods for the critters who pass through. Using the camera height as a guide, the chocolate bear is about 3 feet tall at his shoulder. That’s a mature boar! I filled the ground squirrel burrows and they were open the next time I walked past so,,, they’re doing well.
Work, exploring, adventure and RELAXATION is a part of every visit just as are hotdogs, marshmallows and pork steaks! The prescribed burn was only 2 miles from our driveway and provides fire safety this year as well as additional food for wildlike in the following years.
